Today we are going to the Tayrona National Nature Park. We leave the big backpacks in the apartment and take just enough for three days.

To get to the National Park we have to go to the market station and take any of the buses that go in the direction of La Guajira, we take the one from Riohacha and tell the driver to tell us to get off.

It is important to take plenty of water, it is very hot and although the walks in the Park are not hard, you sweat a lot and it is important not to get dehydrated. Don't forget the mosquito repellent. If you have the chance buy a local one, it is much more effective than Relec.
There are many food and water vendors at the market station, yes the prices in the Park are more expensive but they are totally affordable for foreigners, especially at the entrance where you can buy cans, fruit, empanadas, water...

The bus takes about 45 minutes to reach the entrance of the Park.
Before entering it is advisable to book your accommodation if you decide to sleep there. There are several options, more or less economic, any is good as the Park is impressive but in high season or on weekends may be difficult to find accommodation available. For example the campsite in Cabo San Juan has a palapa between two beaches, but the hammocks don't have mosquito nets and we don't want to sleep in a tent, it's also the closest if you want to go up to Pueblito. We chose the Don Pedro campsite in Arrecifes, it is half way up and the hammocks have mosquito nets.

The heat is very strong and humid although we shouldn't complain because we don't see the sun except for some small time.
The main attraction of the park is its beaches with coconut trees, although not all of them are suitable for swimming due to the strong currents. The combination of jungle, beach and mountain leaves you speechless. Nature in its purest form.

It takes almost two and a half hours to walk to the beach of Cabo San Juan, it is worth the effort and as a reward a good bath. The path is spectacular, you have the opportunity to walk through the jungle without a guide.

We see various types of birds, howler monkeys, titis, butterflies, lizards. Within the Park live indigenous communities and it is common to see them. The beaches are incredible and the views are unbeatable. The feeling of disconnection is complete.
San Juan Cape in Tayrona National Park
Our accommodation is five minutes from the beach in the middle of the jungle. The hammocks are under a kind of palapa with a mosquito net around it. It's basic but the location is great, with outdoor showers. The food in the restaurant is very good. The workers at the campsite are very nice and have everything clean.

It is important to wear long sleeved pants and shirt to avoid bites.
In the hammocks of the campsite Don Pedro sleeps well. We are lulled by the sounds of the jungle and in the background you can hear the sea.
