Colombia day 12: Capurganá.

The night has been incredible, sleeping with the sea in the background is a luxury. We left the big backpacks at the lodge and carried the necessary things for the next 2 days in the small ones. The accommodation is great and the girl who runs it is lovely.

We call a tuk tuk to take us to the port, it's not far, the boat leaves at 8 but we have to be there an hour in advance and we don't have much time. In Colombia the schedules are quite well complied with when it comes to leaving. It is better to book your return ticket in advance, there is only one boat a day, at least in the low season and there may not be room. It is important not to carry excess luggage (maximum 8kgs) because for every extra kilo you are charged 1,000 COP. Don't forget to bring a waterproof bag to protect your backpack, even though there are people selling them at the port.

It takes two hours to get to Capurganá. The sea is calm and the trip was pleasant. The boat makes a previous stop in Triganá and Acandí. If you want to get to Sapzurro you can take a boat in the port of Capurganá.

Sapzurro and Capurganá are not islands, they belong to the department of Chocó but access by road is not possible so you have to cross the Gulf of Urabá by boat to get there, in high season there are weekly flights to the small airfield. Traditionally this area has only had local tourism but it is worth the effort to get here, it is a small paradise.

We leave the things in the accommodation, El Descanso Hostel and visit the village. It is located in a valley surrounded by mountains and jungle.

The streets are not paved, the main square, next to the landing strip has a football field.

The children are in school, and they tell us that there are two shifts a day of the number of children there.

Rosa, the woman in our lodging, recommends us to visit the Coquerita, a little paradise not to be missed. It takes half an hour to get there by a jungle road next to the coast. The views are incredible.

A few years ago a man decided to settle down here and offers food and drinks to visitors. There is a natural saltwater pool set into the rocks and a smaller freshwater pool. It has crabs as guardians.
