Argentina day 16: Iguazu Falls.

Submitted by maria on Mon, 07/03/2011 - 19:58

Today we visit the Iguazu Falls. The local bus passes in front of the hostel, you have to raise your hand to make it stop.  We arrive at the entrance of the Argentine Park.

From the visitor centre you can reach the falls on foot or take a train to the Cataratas station. We prefer to take the green path that takes you to the station and from there to the Falls.

I don't know how to describe it or where to start, it is one of the most impressive and fun places we have visited. There are two circuits, the lower and upper walk, we did both of them.

It looks like a natural amusement park, waterfalls everywhere, trails and walkways in the jungle, surrounded by toucans, coatis.. The water falls so hard that it splashes you everywhere. The noise is deafening. It is one of the best times to visit them since the water flow is very big.

We go down to the river bank and get on a speedboat that takes you almost under the waterfalls. It is a very fun experience but with the amount of water that falls we see practically nothing.

We eat in a rest area, be careful with the coatis because they try to steal your food.

Afterwards, we went to the Devil's Throat. We had to walk along some footbridges over the Iguazú River up to a platform over a deafening waterfall that throws so much water vapor that it can be seen for miles. We recommend that you visit it at the end.

It is important to bring your swimsuit, flip-flops and easy-to-dry clothes. There is no way not to get wet.

The Iguazu Falls are an impressive and essential place that you cannot miss.
