We had breakfast at the hostel, which was very good. At 8 o'clock our driver Nono comes to pick us up.

We go to Borobudur, a spectacular Buddhist temple in the shape of a stupa, it is composed of three terraces in which the reliefs carved in the stone that represent the Buddhist cosmology stand out, below the whole earthly world and at the top the nirvana; this whole complex is surrounded by rice fields and palm trees. Totally essential.

We go up the levels and go through them in an anti-clockwise direction. There are many people, many children who come to visit with the school and do not stop taking pictures. We left the temple and walked down a very long street that has been converted into a shopping centre.

Before eating we climb to Gunung (volcano) Merapi but there is fog and we decide to visit other temples before approaching Prambanan (Mendut and Pawon). It's better to climb first thing in the morning to avoid the fog. There is a jeep service for 350.000 IDR that takes you to a viewpoint 4 kms away.

After lunch we go to Prambanan. These spectacular Hindu temples are located about 17 kms from Yogyakarta. Although there are many ruins still retain impressive buildings like the Candi Shiva Mahadeva, Candi Vishnu, Brahma or Sewu. It is worthwhile to walk around this complex (you can rent a bike), we saw it at sunset, the incredible light. Indispensable.
