Malaysia day 8: Pulau Mabul.

Submitted by maria on Wed, 06/06/2012 - 18:41

We got up early and since it's seven o'clock we only found a Muslim café open where we had breakfast. At 7:30 we are in the office of the Scuba to take the boat tickets and lodging in Pulau Mabul in the Celebes Sea, a small island of cerulean waters, surrounded by reefs and with white sand beaches.

It takes almost an hour by speedboat. The island is beautiful, there is a local village apart from some resorts, there is even one that was an old oil plant in the middle of the sea. There was a heavy storm two days ago and the village is pretty badly damaged. They build their houses with iron sheets, some on wooden piles, others are wooden (longhouse) but they are in bad condition. There are two villages and you have your own mosque.

The Mabul Beach Resort accommodation is very good. The first night we spent in a shared cabin for eight people with three bathrooms and the second night in a private cabin, both very good. The common areas are also great, the tables explain the different types of species you can see on the dives.

We take a bath in the Jetty and rest on a deck chair on the beach. The children of the village come to see if we give them something.
