Myanmar day 17: Hpa An Zwegabin Mountain.

Submitted by maria on Mon, 23/09/2019 - 20:03

After breakfast at the hostel, we rent some motorcycles, we want to climb the Zwegabin mountain.

It is the highest limestone mountain in the area, about eleven kilometers from Hpa An. It is easy to get there, just take the road next to the river about ten kilometers until you take the detour, it stands out among the countryside.

The day is very hot but we still go up. You have to pay to enter 5,000 MMK per pax.

In Lumbini Garden hundreds of Buddhas on stands surround the monastery.

Thousands of stairs separate us from the top, they say there are monkeys but we didn't see them. You have to be careful in some areas because if they are wet the stairs will slip. There is enough shade but you have to carry enough water because there are no stalls to the top (I guess it's because it's low season).

They are building a big Buddha halfway up. It's definitely worth it.

We went up with several groups of locals and some tourists. At the top a monastery with a glass lookout point and spectacular views.

The monks have a restaurant and shop so you can recharge your batteries. Of course, at the top barefoot and as it burns the ground.

When we went down we had a drink in the restaurant downstairs. The kids come back from school and bathe in the pools.
