Myanmar day 18: Hpa An.

Submitted by maria on Tue, 24/09/2019 - 20:10

We have breakfast at the hostel, it's buffet but we don't like it very much. Today we changed our room to a triple room, it's much cleaner and very spacious.

We rent bikes at the Soe Brothers Guest House.

We visited the market, we love to go around the markets of each city, vegetables, spices, legumes, different fish, meat, clothes ... the sellers are very nice.

We changed money in a bank, the change was the same as in the airport.

We take the bike and go to Kan Thar Yar lake, we pass by a school and the fire station, the trucks are very new. At the lake a man sells fresh water and coconuts.

We stop for lunch at a Thai restaurant, the Point. Everything was very good, we mixed Thai and Burmese food.

In the afternoon we return by the river to Shweyinhmyaw Paya and discover the real Karen village.

Narrow streets, dozens of people walking, children playing... We get lost in the Muslim quarter and reach the deep green rice fields.

The orange dirt roads. Men working the land, some playing football and others chinlone.  It seems that it is time to clean up because there are many people drawing water from the wells to bathe.

They are charming and all greet us with a smile. How wonderful. We'd be cycling through the countryside for days.

Back at the hostel, we are surprised to see two groups of armed men (they look like military) waiting for some monks who are praying in the breakfast room, they must be important because there is a lot of security around.

It's getting dark and we go back to the Soe Brothers to return the bikes.

We have a beer and they put fried beans on the side, it is very typical in the whole country.

We enter a monastery near the junction where the Clock Tower is, a group of women are singing in the main hall of the temple.

We have dinner at Famous Coffe, a curious place with sweets and ice cream, but also empanadas and sandwiches.
