Myanmar day 19: Kyatiko.

Yesterday we met a Spanish girl who is living in Australia and will be a month in Myanmar, we coincide with her again doing the check out. She agrees with us that in the hotel they are not as nice as in other areas.

We wait for the bus that stops right in front of the hotel, the tickets we bought them yesterday in the hotel, there are several prices depending on the hour and the company. In less than three hours we arrived in Kyaitiyo.

The bus leaves us at a crossroads, a man approaches to take us but we find it expensive and we go to a shared taxi that leaves us in front of the hotel, hotel Popular.

We leave the bags and a thoun bein from the hotel itself takes us for free to Kinpun where we have to take another transport to climb Mount Kyaiktiyo (Golden Rock).

Before we stop for lunch, we have only eaten some cookies and we are hungry.

We are in Mon State and we can see some differences with other ethnic groups, although it is a very important place of pilgrimage so the ethnic diversity is great. Kinpun is a large outdoor mall with restaurants and tea houses and is the starting point for climbing the Golden Rock.

We got on a truck for almost 60 people, on the back platform there are super narrow wooden benches. The climb is dizzying, it's a third-rate regional port, the driver goes full steam ahead. The ramps have an impressive slope. Luckily they have it regulated and while it goes up one transport cannot go down another and vice versa.

You can do the last few kilometres in a cable car.

Once up there is a walk with restaurants with a view and souvenir stands until you reach the top. You have to pay an entrance fee and cover your legs and shoulders, they are very strict.

A huge golden rock that seems to be held up by a single point (a hair of Buddha) crowned by a small stupa. The faithful stick gold leaf but only men are allowed. It is a very important pilgrimage point for the Burmese, there is a monastery and several dependencies. Several groups of nuns and child monks visit the area.

The descent is hellish, the driver goes like crazy ... anyway this is Asia.

When we got off we had a beer in the restaurant where we ate and asked them to call the hotel to come and pick us up. They don't speak English and we end up in a nearby hostel thanks to a girl from the restaurant for the owner to call the hotel. They are very nice.

Once in the hotel we enjoyed the swimming pool and some very special companions in the rooms, two spiders almost like the palm of my hand in the room. One of the guys at the hotel kills one and says it's gone out the window and there's no body, we don't trust it and we find another one... buf are huge. We kill them with mosquito spray and flip-flops.

We had dinner at the hotel, everything was delicious. The facilities are super new, all landscaped.

We took the bus tickets for tomorrow at the hostel itself. We're going back to Yangon.
