Myanmar day 2: from Hong Kong to Yangon.

Our stopover is in Hong Kong. We arrive at seven in the morning. We have seven hours of transfer and we take the opportunity to visit a friend.

When we arrive at the airport in HK, we connect to the wifi and have doubts about whether to leave the airport or not. Yesterday there were riots at the airport itself and barricades on the access roads. Since March, Hong Kong society has been struggling to maintain its rights and current standard of living, and the riots that accompany the demonstrations are continuous. Yoli informs us that they are very organized, yesterday the rally was indeed at the airport and today it is scheduled at Central.

The HK airport is about 45 kilometers from the city. There are several ways to get there, the fastest and most comfortable is the sky train, the bus is quite fast and the most economical but like the taxi (350 HK$) depends on the traffic situation.

Finally we take the sky train, in only 30 minutes we are in Central.

We meet at the IFC Mall, it has great gardens on the roof top, the views of the bay are incredible.

We take a ferry and go to the Kowloon area. We take a walk along the walk of fame (the last time we came here it was under construction and we can't see it finished) enjoying the views from the other side. It is very hot.

Our flight leaves at 14.20 to Yangon. We take the subway in Kowloon to Central and from there we go back to the airport. We arrive without incident. Our estimated time of arrival is 5:05 p.m.

To enter Myanmar you need a visa which is valid for 28 days, we had already applied for it online so we can go directly to the immigration desk.

We changed almost all the money at the airport as it seems to be the best change according to other travellers. For $50 bills you get better change than for lesser ones.

We arrive in Yangon and it starts to rain. We take a taxi to our hostel, Sule Inn Saphire. It's very well located just a few hundred meters from Sule Paya. Clean and friendly, the family that runs it is very nice, they speak English, you can pay in dollars or in MMK.

We are very tired but we went out for a walk in our neighborhood. We are in the Muslim quarter, there are a lot of street stalls with food and tea houses. La Sule Paya shines even at night. We have an early dinner and go to bed, we have been travelling for two days.
